Asheville-Buncombe Technical CC - Spring 2017

The Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Phi Beta Lambda Chapter has been quite busy this spring semester as we prepare for the upcoming state and national leadership conferences. We have continued our recruitment efforts by offering open informational meetings and creating a vivid bulletin board display with information about PBL. We have distributed flyers across campus and spread the word about PBL and its benefits by sparking open conversations across campus.

We attended the Spring Tip-Off at Isothermal Technical Community College and we were excited about the opportunity to network with other members across the state. We continue to maintain our campus clothing closet, The Locker. We collect donations of new and gently used professional clothing items to offer to our students and community members.

We have conducted a few fundraisers as we anticipate a high financial need for the National Leadership Conference travel to Anaheim, California. During one event, we sold small stuffed animals with candy and treats on Valentine’s Day on campus. We partnered with Fatz Café to host a pancake fundraiser breakfast. We also have another fundraiser planned in conjunction with our Student Government Association sponsored Earth Day event. We will be selling straw hats during this outdoor event.

For our spring community service project, we have partnered with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry to help with some of their urgent needs for their Veterans Restoration Quarters. This is a residential program to help restore the lives of homeless veterans. We will be collecting items such as men's multiple vitamins, spray air freshener, and triple edge disposable razors. These items are in constant need at the facility. We also plan to participate in other events as a group cook team for upcoming meals at the facility.

This is a busy time of year for our chapter and we are excited about the upcoming opportunities at the State Leadership Conference and National Leadership Conference.
