Stanly CC - Spring 2017

The spring started off with new member recruitment and planning for semester activities.  Following a chapter social held at Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant on January 27th, chapter members attended PBL Tip-offs at Pfeiffer University on February 2nd.  Speakers included Mr. Chad Nichols (Rowan-Cabarrus Community College adviser), Dr. Christopher Howard (Pfeiffer University adviser), Mr. Dan Hazlett (SCC Lead Adviser and State Adviser), and Katrina Sams (NC PBL Historian).

A proclamation was officially issued for FBLA-PBL Week at the Stanly County Commissioners meeting on February 6th.  Invitations were extended to West Stanly FBLA and Pfeiffer University PBL chapters to join, and SCC PBL members, Amy Ray (President) and Katrina Sams (VP), appeared before the elected officials and spoke about the importance of the FBLA-PBL organization for area students.

As part of the FBLA-PBL week festivities, Ms. Sarah Barnett spoke about the power of a positive attitude in school, life and career on February 7th at the weekly chapter meeting.   An Adviser Appreciation dinner was held at Blue Bay Restaurant on February 9th that featured a Hollywood star theme with cupcakes, "filmstrip" signature banners, and gifts of appreciation for Mr. Hazlett and Ms. Chaney.  SCC PBL also held community service events during February where chapter members met with Ms. Scott with Stanly County Schools and assembled Parent Engagement Packets that would be distributed to families at local area elementary schools.

On February 20th, chapter members and advisers met at the Rosebriar Restaurant in Albemarle for lunch and networking with Dexter Townsend.  Mr. Townsend, a current Albemarle City Council member and form SCC PBL chapter office, was recently selected as Stanly County's Outstanding Citizen of the Year.  In addition to enjoying a great meal and dessert at a locally-owned  restaurant, it was interesting to compare notes with how things have changed through the years at Stanly Community College and PBL.

Ms. Tracey Hayes, a financial advisor with Edward Jones and founder of Stanly Womens Associated Network, was recently selected as SCC PBL's nominee for 2016-2017 Business Person of the Year.  Ms. Hayes spoke to the chapter on February 20th about financial considerations regarding career and retirement.  During the meeting,, Amy Ray presented Ms. Hayes with a certificate of recognition.

We are continuing to add members and delegates are looking forward to attend the NC PBL State Leadership Conference in April.

This year promises to be one of the best ones yet as we work to become part of "A Legacy of Leadership!"
