Asheville-Buncombe Technical CC - Spring 2016

The A-B Tech chapter of Phi Beta Lambda has been active this past fall.

Wendy Alexander, Carmel French, Angela Lore, Robert McCary, William Mitchell, Katie Roberts, Christian Sluder, and Caitlin Youngblood served as delegates for the FLDC in Greensboro.   Advisers Dr. Kathie Doole, Ms. Veronica Dooly and Ms. Jean Finley were also in attendance.  We were pleased to come home with a Gold Star Chapter award as well as third place for Membership Recruitment Display.  Katie, William, and Christian took on the Non-Trivia contest in spite of being PBL members for only one month.  Angela and Carmel competed for the NCPBL Scholarship.  We are delighted that Angela won and are proud of both ladies.  In addition, Wendy entered the Pin Design contest.

Angela Lore represented the chapter at the National PBL Fall Leadership Conference.  Dr. Doole attended the conference with her which was held in Charleston, SC.

In November, we began gathering items for Homeward Bound to help those in need.  Items collected included toiletries and paper products.  The items were wrapped and delivered to the center in early December.

Also in December we helped sell tickets at the Fly Fishing Expo held at the WNC Agricultural Center. We sponsored three children at the annual SGA Children's Holiday Party where we purchased Big Wheels and attended the party with the children.  We also sold holiday evergreen wreaths.

Our clothing closet, "The Locker", continues to grow.  Donations of new and gently used business attire from individuals and businesses are still rolling in.  Items to those students needing professional wear, include suits for men and women, skirts, slacks, dress shirts, dress shoes, and even dress coats.

The members honored the advisors during FBLA-PBL week.  Homemade candles were given to them along with cards signed by the members.

We are currently preparing for the State Leadership Conference.  We look forward to networking with members from across the state.  Good luck to everyone in the competitions.
