Stanly CC - Fall 2015

The Stanly Community College chapter has been busy since last SLC and the members are excited about the 2015-2016 year.

In May, Chapter President Chuck VanHoose was one of nine students selected to be recognized at the annual college Student Leadership Awards Program and Luncheon.  Katrina Sams was also recognized for her selection as PBL state historian for 2015-16.

Four representatives of the chapter attended the national conference in Chicago, where Chuck was a candidate for national president.  The chapter thanks all those NC PBL members who worked at the campaign booth and the chapters that brought gold-wrapped candy.

The chapter is proud of Katrina Sams for her 6th Place national award in the Retail Management event!

At graduation ceremonies, Leah Joyner received the college's top leadership award for her work with several organizations, including PBL.

Fall activities began with the selection of Katrina as chapter president.  PBL participated in the college Club Fair in September, visited classes, and sent an all-campus email blast with a copy of the membership brochure attached.

During the fall, SCC hosted a meeting of the NCPBL PD-F Board of Directors.  A newly-elected member of the Board is Rick Gardner, former chapter president who served as state president in 1984.  Rick is now director of marketing with DeHaze Corporation (Food Lion).

PD-F Member Sherri Gillespie Ellenburg conducted the officer installation and membership induction ceremonies at a dinner meeting Oct. 19.

At the installation, SCC's Director of Public Information Michelle Pfeiffer was recognized by PBL by presenting the chapter's NCPBL PD-F Scholarship Fund donation in her honor.  Ms. Pfeiffer is very supportive of PBL activities and keeping the campus and community informed on PBL events and awards.

On Oct. 28, the chapter will do a March of Dimes booth at SCC's FallFest.

The chapter has scheduled visits to the Stanly County Small Business Center, the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, and the Albemarle Downtown Development Association on November 16 to celebrate American Enterprise Day.

Delegates are looking forward to the Charleston NFLC and especially the Greensboro FLDC.

SCC members wish everyone a good fall and a good PBL year!
