Gaston College - Fall 2013

On Saturday October 5, 2013. Gaston College Phi Beta Lambda Chapter members volunteered at The March of Dimes “March for Babies” 5K run and walk. The event was held at the Shelby City Park located in Shelby, NC. The March of Dimes is an organization that works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. The foundation works together for stronger, healthier babies. FBLA-PBL is a March for Babies partner, so we put on our shoes and walked for the cause.

The activities kicked off at 8:00 a.m. Our chapter was in charge of directing participants along the designated route. Members had a wonderful time cheering the runners on. Together we all showed our support!

Entertainment was provided by local dance teams, as well as, free carousel and train rides. Signs and balloons were placed throughout the park area. The names and pictures of children for whom participants were walking and running were displayed on signs. Before the walk began, we released purple and white balloons. The balloon filled sky was such an inspiration for volunteers who believe in the mission, and join in the fight against premature birth.

Gaston College Phi Beta Lambda was proud to put excellence into action during this event.
